Storming into Melbourne Schools

Rugby League in Melbourne has stormed its way into the school system with over a 100 Primary and Secondary schools in the southern State Capital being visited by the ARL Development/Melbourne Storm Development team in 2006.

 

In what has been a remarkable year for the code south of the Murray River, Victoria continues to exceed expectations in its willingness to learn the sport. Boosted by the Storm’s excellent NRL form and the success of the third and deciding State of Origin match, the Development team, based out of Princess Park, has been flat out trying to satisfy demand.

 

The Rugby League content provided to the schools varies from multi-week mini league carnivals, to inter-school gala days to full on Rugby League competitions. Most schools have responded to what has been on offer so well that they have been involved in multiple League events.

 

The success in the Development work, especially in Primary Schools, has already started to show results at the representative level with the recent Under 12’s team finishing third in the National Primary School Exchange tournament above more fancied opponents in the ACT and Northern Territory. The development work is expected to have also had a positive flow on effect on club participation levels which will be announced later this year.

 

The ground work however will not stop there with plenty more Development clinics, gala days and tournaments planned for the rest of the year. There is of course still room as well if your school would like to trial Rugby League in 2007. To find out more information simply visit:
