EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - Queensland Rugby League
Purpose of Position (Position Summary)
The Development Officer reports to the Division Manager and South East Development Manager. The officer is responsible for implementing the QRL’s Coaching and Development Program, and will:
- Ensure the highest standards of education and training are maintained,
- Develop and maintain networks to promote, develop and service the game, and
- Increase and develop awareness and acceptance of the game within the community, clubs and schools.
Key Responsibilities
A. Education and Training Programs
The Development Officer will organise and deliver Modified Games, Club Coach and Senior Club Coach Courses as required, conduct or provide for assessment of coaches seeking accreditation and conduct coaching updates.
The Development Officer will organise and deliver First Aid Officer Level 1 and Level 2 Courses and Sports Administration Courses as required.
B. Promotion, Recruitment and Participation
In conjunction with the Division’s other Development Unit staff, the Development Officer will initiate and plan a regular series of Club Performance Reviews or Club Health Checks. The Division’s mandate is to establish professional and sustainable ‘Community Football Centres’ that are linked to National and State development plans. Club Health Checks are a mechanism to achieve such an outcome.
The Development Officer will be expected to display an innovative and energetic approach to promoting rugby league in the Division and will represent the QRL at events, forums and stakeholder meetings.
Through the education of coaches and Club Coaching Directors the Development Officer will enhance the skill standard of players and coaches.
The Development Officer will support an increase in participation by encouraging and promoting awareness and acceptance of the game at junior, community and school levels.
C. General Activities
The Development Officer will be expected to ensure that the Division is regularly updated on such issues as:
Retention rates for qualified coaches.
School – Club transition rates.
Club executive turnover.
Club and participant growth
The Development Officer will be expected to report on outcomes to the Division Manager and Development Manager, for preparation of quarterly reports to the Manager, Education and Development.
It is also expected the Development Officer will assist with the planning and operation of QRL Camps and where practicable with the co-ordination of the programs.
Selection Criteria
A. Essential Criteria
A sound knowledge of rugby league and demonstrated technical knowledge in relevant areas.
Sound people management and interpersonal and networking skills.
Effective business management skills including strategic and operational planning skills.
Proven computer skills enabling maintenance of membership database records and creation of resources to assist the games volunteers.
Natural drive ‘to make things happen’, enthusiasm and high personal motivation for results.
Demonstrated effective skills in the delivery of education and training programs.
Level 2 Coach Accreditation is essential and Level 1 First Aid is desirable
Relevant experience in the coaching and development field
Proven ability to Build and Maintain relationships with membership
High Level Time Management skills
Proven ability to Develop and Deliver Education Accreditation programs – for Coaches and Sports Trainers
Proven ability to work in a Team environment and learn all aspects of Game Development.
Commitment to develop Leadership qualities
A knowledge and understanding and ability to use the varying forms of Social Media
B. Desirable Criteria
Tertiary qualifications relevant to the delivery of education and training programs.
Results oriented with an industry and community focus.
Decisive and proactive approach.
A self-starter and strategic thinker.
An empathy and understanding of club/community development issues, challenges and opportunities.
